The Price

Standard

You take your chances, love on the run

You’re looking for the prize you thought you won

But where you left her-you look, she’s gone

Can’t seem to figure how it came up wrong

She was a sure thing, heart like gold

No way you could lose, always someone to hold

But lonely hearts run wild, two can play this game

Thought you could have it all, feel no pain

Figured you’d make your bets, there’d be no cost

You counted on summer, didn’t plan on frost

Hearts of fire, dreams of ice

You played your game, now pay the price

A Loser’s Game

Standard

She’s sitting at home, waiting for you

But tonight you’re thinking of someone new.

You want to feel that one night passion;

A game of roulette, get your chips, cash in.

So you call and say you can’t make it tonight;

You’ll make it up tomorrow–everything’s alright.

And you go on, you’re winning this game;

You get all the pleasure, there’ll be no pain.

But you didn’t hear her voice when she said goodbye:

Do you think she’ll let another lonely night go by?

You’re focused on scoring, picking and choosing;

You don’t know it but tonight you’re losing.

You think she’s sitting at home dreaming of you.

You swear she could never want someone new.

While you were out playing you never heard her cries;

You feel that in love’s game you’re her prize.

So you go on: there’s a game to be played

And you don’t see your prize is slipping away.

She’s out to forget you, whatever the cost;

You think you’ve won, but tonight–you just lost.

IN YOUR ARMS

Standard

In your arms

     A world so new I have discovered

     A me I never knew could be

     A happiness I have never known

     A lesson in trust and honesty

In your arms

     There is passion strong and tender

     Moonlight magic and daytime bliss

     There is closeness without a touch

     The answer to my starlight wish

In your arms

     The magic I’d stopped believing

     The touch that stops my heart from beating

     The dream that I thought had died

     The feeling I’d given up on feeling

In your arms

Two Hearts

Standard

Two hearts standing together as one

Looking out on the dawn of a new day

The glowing light of the past,

The brilliant hues of the present,

And shimmering vision of times yet to come.

The memories that light up their minds

Full of laughter and anger, tears and smiles

Of days before they found love,

Of days they can barely remember,

And of all the days they spent wrapped in love.

The colors of love that brighten the present

Like a ribbon of rainbow around each new day

The planning for days still to come,

The loving and laughing and compromising,

And making of memories to look back on.

The beautiful vision of the future

Lies ahead, shimmering in the morning sun

Full of endless possibilities,

Hopes to be realized, dreams to come true,

And full of days when the two shall be one.

Eternally

Standard

Your heart beating with mine

In the light of the night, in the dark of the day

Beating steadily, wonderfully, musically

Entrancing me, the song of an angel

Your voice singing it’s words to my heart

Softly and gently it calls me and

I am drawn magically, mystically

To you, my heart to yours

Your soul is touching mine

Reaching, holding, caressing, adoring

Drawing me closer, holding me

Eternally I am yours

As The Sun Goes Down

Standard

I watch with you as the sun goes down

And though we watch together, we each watch alone

And the sun shines in two different minds

And sets in two different souls.

I see the poetry and the glory

And the beauty in the colors leading into night

And as the sunlight fades, the starlight shines

And I know a new day is coming.

In your eyes a different light shines

And I can see your vision too is not the same

And you see the sun go down and darkness fall

And the end of the day has come.

I stand there with you on the edge, watching,

And so we travel, step carefully into night

And the vibrant colors fade into black

And each know not what lies ahead.

Like A Dream

Standard

Like magic,

Your voice is calling my name

Like stars,

Your eyes are shining bright

Like the moon,

My head is spinning around

Like the sun,

My heart is on fire

Like raindrops,

I’m falling down fast

Like time,

This just keeps on ticking

Like a fool,

I was wishing on stars

Like a dream,

You somehow came true

WORDS

Standard

Dancing in my head,

beguiling stars drop

from limbs of crooked oak

falling to the ground.

Sparkling in my eyes,

lights of wonder roar;

dazzling drizzle falls,

whispering my name.

Burning in my heart,

wild and unspoken,

rain falls; secrets slowly

turning into ash.

Fighting on my tongue,

piercing arrows fly;

imagination,

bringing dreams to life.

Playing in my soul,

misty mem’ries sing;

 futures yet unseen

keeping present’s time.

Racing to my pen,

lyric ebb and flow,

miles, time and ink

changing shape again.

Standing still in time

as I tinker here,

watching dancing stars

becoming poetry.
